Lookout Mountain, Georgia, above Chattanooga
Rock City is a garden trail threaded through enormous sandstone formations on the Georgia side of Lookout Mountain, ending at Lover’s Leap with the long-advertised claim that you can see seven states from it. It is the attraction those barn roofs across the South have been telling you to see since the 1930s.

Permits, fees and access
This is the single best money-saving fact in this whole guide. Rock City uses dynamic pricing. Buy at the window and an adult ticket is around forty-three to forty-five dollars. Buy at least one day in advance online and it can drop to as low as twenty-one. That is a saving of up to twenty-four dollars per ticket for booking the night before, which on a family of four is real money.
One thing to know first
The trail is narrow by design and includes the Swing-A-Long Bridge and Fat Man’s Squeeze, a genuinely tight passage between rock walls. It is not a good fit for anyone with mobility limits or serious claustrophobia, and strollers are difficult.
Access rules, fees and closures verified August 15, 2026 against the agency that manages this place. They change, sometimes without notice. Check before you drive.
I keep this list because it is genuinely how people spend weekends here, and because almost every guide to it is out of date. If you are weighing a move to Middle Tennessee and want to know which part of it puts you closest to the things you actually like, ask me. No pitch.
