Lynchburg and the Jack Daniel Distillery

72 miles from downtown Nashville · about 1 hour 20 minutes

Moore County, TN

Lynchburg is a town of about six thousand built around a courthouse square and the oldest registered distillery in the United States. The county is still dry, which is a fact visitors find hard to believe while standing in the middle of it.

Permits, fees and access

Visitor center is open daily 9am to 5pm. Book tours in advance. The tours that include tasting are twenty-one and over with valid photo ID; the standard Distillery Tour admits under twenty-ones. Closed New Year’s Eve and Day, Martin Luther King Day, Easter Sunday, Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Christmas.

One thing to know first

The square is small and it is the whole town, so this pairs better with Bell Buckle or Tims Ford than it does with a full day on its own.

Access rules, fees and closures verified August 15, 2026 against the agency that manages this place. They change, sometimes without notice. Check before you drive.

I keep this list because it is genuinely how people spend weekends here, and because almost every guide to it is out of date. If you are weighing a move to Middle Tennessee and want to know which part of it puts you closest to the things you actually like, ask me. No pitch.
